SEEING DOUBLE?
In case you think you've already seen this newsletter, it's because you have. Edition 1 didn't go to the wider Newsletter recipients, so resending now. To everyone. A thousand pardons. Also fixed a technical glitch or two.

Big Spring Sing
Billilla Gardens, Hallifax Street Brighton
Finale 1-4pm Sat 14 Dec 2024
First session Sun 15 Sep
One of our discoveries at the Festival of Voices was that the south-east corridor of Melbourne is the choral centre of known universe, with Vocally Wild joined in Hobart by the delightful Cadence and the irrepressible Men in Suits.
Now Bayside is really stitching it up with an invitation to all-comers for a Spring program of community singing led by Steven Hodgson and The Consort of Melbourne. There are five fortnightlyish rehearsals from 3–5pm on Sundays beginning Sunday 15 September (slots in nicely after Connor's Run!) with the finale performance on December 14.
Resources provided for download. You register your interest and get the materials at https://www.bayside.vic.gov.au/services/arts-and-culture/big-spring-sing.
Quite a few VW singers have signed up already. Great chance to try something new, mix with singers and would-be singers in our hood, and mention en passant the enticing opportunities for new singers at Vocally Wild. Just saying, no pressure.
For all Earthkind
Federation Square
1-4pm Sat 2 Nov 2024
This is a major music-led public engagement project to align with the UN Climate Summit. It includes the mass singing of the theme song Tomorrow's Sun in Melbourne and Sydney simultaneously in November.
To participate, you can register as an individual and download the resources to learn the song https://4allek.org/phase2-participation-resources/ .
There are different ways you can be involved in the project as well as the singing event. We have also registered as Vocally Wild and are trying to clarify if and how we might be involved as a choir in the Fed Square performance.
New Vocally Wild Christmas Concert
Beaumaris Community Centre
Wed 18 Dec 2024 pm (time TBC)
This year all our Christmases are coming at once.
Building on a traditional local Christmas event for families at the Beaumaris Community Centre, we will present a concert and singalong in the Hall the week after the Dendy Park event. This provides an opportunity to sing songs beyond the limited selection now included at the Bayside Carols, to work on harmonies, and to have the audience join in.
Great to see a majority of the choir keen to be in it. Please add you name to the sheet at rehearsal.
Our thanks to elves Russel, Rob and Derek for doing the spadework to make it happen. One of the best things to come out of an AGM in a long time.
Connor's Run
Sunday 15 Sep 2024
Middle Park
This important event in the choir calendar has snuck up on us.
Join the hardy crew serenading the runners as they push for glory in the annual run to raise funds for brain cancer research. Like climbing the Matterhorn or crossing the Nullabor, braving the morning coastal breezes off the forshore while holding your high Bs is really a rite of passage for any self-respecting community chorister. "More fun than run" says it all – don't miss out!
Last chance to sign up this week. Wear your performance blacks, but see Edwina for wardrobe advice and circulation tips.
Bayside Carols
Tues Dec 10 2024
Planning for the concert in Dendy Park starts this week so we will have more details soon. You can check out the rehearsal dates in our Summary of Dates below and pencil them in – we'll fine tune the times as we get more info.
New Teaching Resources
Members area, Vocally Wild website
The first resources for our new songs are now available at Members/Teaching Resources – click here to check them out. There are choir versions of all the newies to listen to, the best way to get a feel for what we'll sound like when we have mastered the piece ?.
And Emma's tracks for the Tribute to Queen are now ready for download:
If you are having any issues with accessing, playing or downloading Emma's tracks, or using the other resources, chat to Derek or Clint or email Clint at learnwks@bigpond.net.au .
NEW (OR DIFFERENT)
Vocally Wild Open Mic
Tuesday 3 December
Following threatening letters from crowds of Open Mic intending performers claiming they needed more time to practise, we have cleverly moved the Open Mic session to the last rehearsal of the year so we are assured of going out with a bang.
This is an unmissable opportunity to spread your musical (or theatrical) wings and share those stunning performances in the shower or the back porch with the world. Graduates of our Open Mic have been known to move straight on to gigs on cruise ships.
Use the Open Mic fill in sheet at rehearsals to book your item.
TIP: if you need a little help from some friends, try posting on the Vocally Wild WhatsApp. Haven't joined yet? Here you go https://chat.whatsapp.com/KYsX1DMNNCc0kCTdNabTvH .

Singalong at Mayflower
With musician Bob Hook & The Ukelele Ladies
Friday 16 August
Mayflower, Brighton
Thank you to the 19 Vocally Wilders (including a couple of husbands and a brother!) who joined Bob as he played and sang his melodic and varied repertoire. Kerry Matthey even brought along her Ukulele, joining Patty and June in the Uke band! It all went very well, sounded great and I know Patty is extremely grateful to you all for your enthusiasm and for giving up your time. It was a lovely afternoon. Pat.
