Updates
New members
A special welcome to the choristers who've joined us this term. It's great for us to have fresh faces and more voices. We know it can take a while to find your way around the music and all the doings, even with a friendly Buddy – please just ask if we can help, and let us know how you're going. Also contact Derek if you need assistance to get access to the VW website.
New songs
Emma has been quick off the mark again and you'll find the practice tracks for all the current songs are now on the website at Members/Songs.This includes Basin Street Blues, Hallelujah and Shosholoza.
Speaking of which, here's an interesting version of Shosholoza by the Soweto Gospel Choir. Found one SATB version of Basin Street Blues but not our arrangement and the singers are all far too young, probably illegal. Has anyone found a useful SATB version of Slow Rock and Roll?
Festival of Voices
Hobart, Tasmania
28 Jun to 1 Jul 2024
DON'T MISS OUT!
Great news that Vocally Wild has been invited to join a couple of the high-profile sessions on the program, a recognition of the quality of our singing. There's still time to join in – but only just.
Reminder to festival-goers to:
- pay the trip levy to Vocally Wild now overdue
- complete your own individual festival registration ($165) at the festival website by May
Early rehearsals (for the festival choir group only) have now started – please be on time to start at 6.30pm for one hour of singing. We especially value the extra time and effort Bill and Emma are contibuting to get us ready for Hobart.
For any Hobart questions, talk to Edwina, Russel or Helen.
ANZAC DAY
Beaumaris Community Centre (behind our hall)
Sunday April 21
Warmup at 1pm
WE NEED MORE PATRIOTIC CHORISTERS! Especially blokes.
The ranks are a bit thin at the moment for this very traditional event in the Vocally Wild performance calendar.
There's something special about the day, starting with the short sprightly march (well, stroll) to the Centre, singing in the open with an energetic school band, watching all parts of the community step forward for the wreath ceremony, waiting to see if any soldiers in the guard will faint, listening to the wistful Last Post. All this, and a free spread back at the nearby Bowls Club afterwards. The sangas are exemplary.
Please just add your name to the list on the membership desk, or contact Helen.

Vocally Wild is brimming with opportunities at the moment:
- New chums: invite any likely friends along to rehearsals for a couple of weeks on us to test the choral waters: new term start on April 16 is a perfect chance (let Derek know)
- Free tucker: sign up (and tell Helen) to sing for your supper at Anzac on Sunday 21 April – did we mention the great sandwiches?
- Just do it: no more wavering on Festival of Voices, take the Tassie plunge. Yell if you need any tips or matchups on accommodation and travel. Then get on your bike for the early rehearsals, 6.30pm start through to FOV (see Russel or Edwina).
- Giving us the sheets: looking for anyone willing to provide occasional help with organising copies of the music (see Maggie or Clint).

Sydney Eisteddfod 2044
Vocally Wild does not aim to sing competitively, and we are already busy in June, but it's good to keep in touch with what's happening around the traps. We are members of the Australian National Choral Association (ANCA) and they send details of events such as this, see Sydney June 24 .
Keeping up with the Mileses
