Choir news
Lots to smile about
The new piano!
The piano has now been tuned and is resting in all its shiny magnificence in the hall. Emma seems to have bonded already. Thanks again to Russel for managing the transport and installation and to Maggie for arranging a reassuringly thicker cover to protect the top.

Is there a publicity wizz in the choir community?
Publicity tasks have been shared around the committee, with Cherry and Pat having borne the brunt of the work to now. As we speak, the choir needs to attract a few new members to meet our target of 80, so publicising the choir effectively is especially important.
If you (or yours?) have expertise and are willing to contribute to planning and focusing our promotion through the VW website, our Facebook, community information outlets and music networks, please have a word with one of your friendly committee members .
Chance to become rich and famous. Sort of.
We’re planning on bringing back an ‘open mic’ session for the last rehearsal of the term on Tuesday 12 September. A popular feature of the choir a few years ago, we finish early and have time for people to present musical items to the adoring and totally supportive fellow choir members. Anything goes – DIY solos, groups, with instrument or not (piano available!). Oh yes – with time for some wine and light supper, of course. Unconfirmed rumours that the infamous men’s chorus might be coaxed out or retirement, or wherever they were banished to.
Find a friend, or not, and pop your name on the list on the table at the next rehearsal.
Reminder: practice tracks on the Vocally Wild website
https://www.vocallywild.org.au/dbpage.php?pg=membersonly
As an SATB choir, learning parts is what we do. One of the musical strengths of Vocally Wild is having practice tracks for all four parts available on the website. These are invaluable for practising the parts, especially if you don’t read and play an instrument, but also for building reading skills as you follow along. Thanks to Emma, the song library includes all our current songs. You’ll need your log in, and then
- go to Members/Songs to find the song library
- scroll through alphabetically to find your song
- click on a track and follow the prompts to play or download the track.
If you need any help, ask Russel.

Jamie Miles recital, 8.00pm Monday 14 August
Tempo Rubato (Brunswick)
https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1079416
There’s still time to book to come and hear items from Jamie’s repertoire to raise money for his participation in upcoming ARD competition in Munich. Jamie has been a great supporter of our choir which we have acknowledged with $200 donation. Support Jamie, enjoy the music, and join a group for dinner before (sign the sheet, talk to Russel).
Mayflower Ukulele Concert, 2.00pm Thursday 23 November
Mayflower, Centre Road Brighton
Long term past choir member, Patty Chaplin, and her Ukulele Group, led by Ron Leigh (Ron’s Music), will present their annual Uke Concert for the Independent Living residents at Mayflower. Vocally Wild usually puts together a group of about a dozen singers to join in. Last year Kerry turned up with her uke too – wonderful stuff! The show is always loved by the residents, and then we are supplied delicious afternoon tea! Easy singing, words supplied. Fill in Pat’s sheet on the table at rehearsals to join and she’ll be in touch.
Fred Smith album launch, 2.00pm Sunday 12 November
Brunswick Ballroom
https://moshtix.com.au/v2/event/fred-smith/153105
Many choir members have fond memories of singing with Fred and the Spooky Men’s Chorale on the Sea Shanties concert some years ago. His current national tour includes the Melbourne launch of his new album, Look.
