A very warm Friday - hope you're all in a good place!!!
We’ve had an excellent start to the year, with many new members and visitors. What a vibe!
Bill has selected a host of interesting music for us to learn and we are also happy that we’ve been able to fulfil a couple of Members’ song requests, so if you have a favourite song you think would be ideal for us to consider, please see if you can first source the appropriate choral score.
Sadly we have decided not to take part in the Festival of Choirs in Hobart this year. There were 19 people interested, but not all confirmed, and to make this trip financially feasible we would need over 30 to be taking part. However, we will look at it again in 2024, as it is a wonderful event.
Our diary has started to develop– of course there will be other items to add, but this is for now. You’ll see we have marked Sunday, 27th August for our Concert. Details to be confirmed.
Another bit of news - we have about 25 people listed to be going to the Mahler 8 extravaganza with 19 of these already registered, booked in to hotels, flights, etc. Very exciting. The 'score' is somewhat challenging to say the least! If you're still considering it, you'll have plenty of fellow Vocally Wilder support!

(Ours is a different arrangement, but the pronunciation is clear.) If you listen to and sing along with them (with the music in hand), the lyrics/pronunciations will become increasingly easy, as will the notes and rhythms. But this needs to be done regularly as "homework".
WELCOME PARTY – TUESDAY, 28TH FEBRUARY, 6.30 P.M. BEAUMARIS HALL
To welcome everyone, especially our new members, we will be having a get-together at the Hall, (outside at the rear if the weather is good). So come along at 6.30 p.m. and then stay for our rehearsal. (Partners welcome of course). Food will be supplied, so just bring your own drinks/glasses. We’ll start our rehearsal as usual at 7.30 p.m. and polish off the rest of the food at ‘break time’ if there’s any left! We have access to the hall until 10.15 on this night.

VENTILATION
There were a few remarks from last Tuesday that some members felt chilly or cold in the hall due to the doors being open and fans activated. We have discussed your concerns, but our priority as a Committee is to consider the health of our choir community. Having necessary, adequate ventilation is currently the best thing we can do to avoid any spread of Covid.
Please bring extra layers of clothing to rehearsal in case you feel the cold.
We feel it very important to resume more vigilant Covid prevention actions, so we will continue to keep doors open, have masks and hand sanitiser available, etc. for the next few weeks as necessary precautions.
FUND RAISER FOR NEW PIANO
Our aim is to eventually improve on tour current piano and it is understood that an ideal instrument is a Yamaha U3 Upright. If any of you have any wonderful ideas on how to fund raise, we are all ears!!
OUR TALENTED MEMBERS
Lesley Coleman
You may have noticed that Lesley Winning (Coleman) is absent from choir at the moment. She is busy rehearsing for a play that will be on at La Mama HQ in the second half of March. More details are to come, but the play will incorporate movement, voice and projection to bring insights into mental illness to the audience. It might sound a bit dry, but it’s shaping up to be an innovative and absorbing piece of theatre.
If this sounds interesting to you, stay tuned for further information in the next Newsletter.
OTHER MUSICAL/CREATIVE NEWS
Josh Piterman!
Most of you know of Josh, who sang with us at Carols in the Park a few years ago! Josh is currently playing the ‘Phantom’ in Melbourne. The latest news from the paper today is that Josh, in his next stunning career move, will be playing Jean Valjean in ‘Les Miserables’ in the new London production. Amazing and how proud are we all of him!?
