TUESDAY REHEARSALS
For the next 3 rehearsals, please bring your 'Carols in the Park' sheet music. We will go over the SandyBeach songs after break this Tuesday, so bring these too. If you’re not doing the concert and don’t wish to stay after the break, that is fine, but of course remain if you are happy to sing these again:
- A Place in the Choir
- A Dream in Your Pocket
- Long and Winding Road
- This Little Light of Mine
- You’re The Voice.
- We may have enough time to sing ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’
BAYSIDE CAROLS IN THE PARK
As mentioned, the first rehearsal was terrific. Thanks indeed go to Bill and Andrew Mathers (SACB M.D.) and Russel for his excellent planning and setting up of equipment. Thanks also to Rob Tunnock and all of you who helped set up and who brought the tasty food for ‘morning coffee break’. Mosaic will provide food next week; we did have some unopened food from today, so this will be added to next week’s fayre! Don’t forget we will be rehearsing at our Beaumaris venue next Saturday.
Bill will confirm shortly if we are able to add another ‘band/choir Christmas song’ to the programme – watch this space!
Outfits for the Carols in the Park performance: All black – long sleeved tops, pants/skirts – please, no short skirts. Silver scarves will be handed out to the women, Red for the men. At the end of the performance, once you leave the stage, please return your scarves prior to going to the nearby Sports Club for the ‘after-party’!! Yes, this is on! More detail regarding parking, where to meet, location of Sports Club, etc. will be provided shortly.
OTHER CONCERTS - TERM 4
All those involved in the other four concerts during November and December will be contacted with final information prior to the event. If you wish to add your name to the lists, of course you are still welcome to do so.
A booklet of ‘Carols and Christmas Songs’ (which includes some alternative carols to those at Carols in the Park, plus some songs for youngsters), is being printed for use at the Hampton Cricket Club Party and the Rotary Christmas Market. We are so grateful that Bill has offered to be there with us on the 24th December, playing guitar on this occasion, so don’t worry, we’ll now be pitch perfect!!
FINAL TUESDAY REHEARSAL
On Tuesday, 6th December we’ll finish singing at 8.45 p.m., clear most of the chairs away and have a bit of social! Please bring a plate, some drink, or whatever you’d like to share. We have mugs for tea/coffee, but bring your own cup if you wish, glass if you are keen on having wine, etc. Carolyn and I will take all the V.W. mugs home to wash and return them for our first 2023 rehearsal.
FIRST REHEARSAL, 2023
The December Newsletter will announce any further news for 2023, but FYI Term 1, 2023 commences on Tuesday, 7th February. Our plan at this stage is to hold a ‘Welcome Back’ party early in Term 1. Details will be given early in the New Year.
LESLEY COLEMAN (WINNING) – ‘HOME TRUTHS’ - By Lesley
Russel and his business partner, Adrian Panozzo, Better Life Mobiles, supported the making of my short film about family violence, Home Truths. Here is a picture of the two of them with me on the night of our premiere screening for supporters and friends at the Palace Brighton Bay cinema on Thursday 3 November (photo by Vicki Jones, Big Eye Studio).
The film tells the story of eight survivors of family violence. Their stories are both universal and deeply personal.
You can watch the film on our website www.home-truths.com.au We are making it available free of charge for people to watch and use in training, counselling and education settings. An eBook is expected to be completed by the end of the year. This will provide further resources and information about identifying, coping with and surviving family violence. It is being written by a noted Melbourne counselling psychologist, Meredith Fuller OAM.
Thank you Lesley, Russel and Adrian.
PASHMINA SCARVES FOR SALE
Four 100% Cashmere Pashmina scarves - $25.00 each! These were extras purchased by our ‘travelling’ choir ‘Viva Melbourne’ for the aborted Choir Festival trip to Croatia in 2020 (Covid was the culprit!) so if you would like a beautiful scarf, fabulous blue/aqua colour, for yourself or to give as a Christmas present, they will be at Tuesday rehearsals for the next couple of weeks.
HEAVY METAL BAND – 'DISTURBED'
Have you heard Simon and Garfunkel’s song “The Sounds of Silence” by Disturbed? Powerful stuff. Here’s the link - https://youtube.com/watch?v=u9Dg-g7t2l4&feature=share See what you think!
That’s all for now! See you on Tuesday - enjoy everything - you've made a great start!
Please contact any committee member if you have any queries.
