Firstly, a very warm welcome to our new members – an additional three new Vocally Wilders joined us this week. We hope you enjoy all the music and friendship with Vocally Wild. SPRING CONCERT
In Russell’s words, “Our Spring Concert was brilliant!”
We received many comments on the‘joy’ felt by our audience
and performers last Sunday and
wasn’t it wonderful to have a
full-house with audience filling
up the ‘dress circle’
at the Brighton Town Hall?
What a day: 52 Vocally Wilders in ‘full voice’, wonderful musicians in ‘full flight’ and led by our creative and completely ‘full-on’ Music Director, Bill.
Emma – magnificent; audience was dumb-struck, the Bayside Mayor brought to tears. Our MC had never heard the Andante maestoso from the ‘Pas de Deux’ played so well.
Charlotte – brilliant; such poise; such flair; watching those creative, elegant dancing fingers was mesmerising.
Jamie – at one with his Viola; such young talent and we were so fortunate to witness Jamie’s premiere performance of his own composition, ‘Caprice for
Viola and Cello’ with his proud sister playing by his side.
Bill –thank you for leading us so enthusiastically and energetically; your confidence that we could perform at a concert such as this, after so long in the wilderness, was inspiring. Did Bill go home and put his feet up after this huge day? No, he rushed off to 3MBS to present his Sunday Late programme and even gave a ‘shout’ out to Vocally Wild at its commencement!
Rob, Stuart and Allan and Rod took many photos/videos. Photos will be uploaded to the V.W.website shortly and 6 videos by Rob and 2 by Allan are already there. Just go to vocallywild.org.au Home Page and click Video Performances. If you have some, please send along any clear, full choir photos, as I’m looking for one, in landscape setting, which can be to be resized into a long, narrow picture, to add to the website rotating Banner.
John Smith, loved and valued past V.W. member, was in the audience and I know he was delighted that ‘A Place in the Choir’ was in our repertoire. John brought this song to our attention in the first place!

BAYSIDE CAROLS IN THE PARK
Yes, Hallelujah indeed, the full-blown Carols celebration, as it was in 2019, has been reinstated. Many decisions need to be made by Bayside Council and Fruitbowl in the next few weeks, but we will endeavour to assist in any way we can. In fact, today, Russel met with Fruitbowl to give the organisers the benefit of our past experience and he reports that planning is underway. Rest assured, the event will be the best it can be! It will be amazing to get together again with our friends at Mosaic and the Southern Area Concert Band – like old times!
BAYSIDE HEALTH AGEING EXPO
This was an excellent, well attended community event and genuine thanks go to Judy Page, Bayside Council for her support of all Bayside community groups and for promoting our Spring Concert.
The Vocally Wild table displayed many items, brochures and photographs from Vocally Wild over the years, including the very first ‘Carols’ programme from 2002 held at Brighton Town Hall. This event was the ideal opportunity to hand out Membership Forms, Spring Concert flyers and chat about the choir with visitors. The Chatty Café was cheerfully set up outside in its signature ‘yellow’ and it was good to see past member Penny as a Chatty Café organiser. Penny also came to our Concert, a good loyal supporter! Visitors were treated to free coffees and barbecue sausages. It was a busy day and the two Neil Diamond tribute concerts were a sell-out. Thank you to all the Vocally Wilders who looked after our table.
TEA BREAK AT REHEARSALS
May I take this opportunity to say thank you to Carolyn who brings along milk and sets up our tea break each week. She leaves the kitchen spick and span afterwards too!
Remember, we now have many mugs in the cupboard, so if you forget to bring your own, you are welcome to select one from the very assorted shapes and colours we now have! Please either wash your mug afterwards and place it on the t-towel in the cupboard, so it will be dry the next week, or take it home and bring it next week. If this system doesn’t work too well, a roster might be necessary, so mugs will be taken home to our dish-washers (human or mechanical!)
THANK YOU to Emma for bringing along the delicious chocolate mud cake last week – golly, it went in a flash!!
3MBS VICTORIAN YOUNG PERFORMER AWARD
A group of us will be going along to the Abbotsford Convent to support Jamie in his next ‘gig’ on Sunday, 23rd October for his appearance in the Final of the 2022 3MBS Victorian Young Performer Award. 2.30 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Chapel, Abbotsford Convent, 2.00 p.m. Bookings via TryBooking. Come and join us!
