How quickly the holidays passed and here we are in Term 3. A 'warm' welcome is extended to you all, especially our recent new members. We hope you're enjoying choir and looking forward to a stimulating and exciting semester. It was heartwarming to see so many of you at rehearsal last Tuesday on such a chilly night.
Vocally Wild is on a 'Membership Drive'!! To secure the viability of the choir, we need to be proactive in this area. We are a 'performance choir' receiving excellent direction and musical accompaniment, so if you have friends or acquaintances who love singing, mention that they are welcome to come along for a complimentary visit on a Tuesday night. Please contact Cherry, or suggest to your contacts that they visit the Vocally Wild Website for further information.

A little more about some of the dates above:
SANDYBEACH CENTRE FRIDAY SOCIAL CLUB - Friday, 19th August. 1.00 p.m.
We are looking for singers to perform to a small group at the Social Club. As this will be one of our local community offerings, on a smaller than usual scale, we will be unaccompanied and sailing under our own steam! We'll sing a selection of about 7 or 8 items from our repertoire; hopefully uncomplicated pieces, but we know the Social Club members will love every minute!
So if you're happy to 'give it a go' and join in the fun, please pop your name on the sheet Cherry will place at the rear of the hall. Thank you! The sheet will be available each week.
BAYSIDE HEALTHY AGEING EXPO - Saturday, 8th October
This will be at the Brighton Town Hall and Vocally Wild will have an information table. We we will have more detail closer to the time but we hope that some of our members might like to volunteer to be at the venue to chat to visitors and promote the choir. Bayside Healthy Ageing are to present many activities during the month of October, so watch out for the information as it appears.
CONNOR'S RUN - Sunday, 11th September
It will be an early start - to catch those quick off the mark runners as they flash past! 7.30 a.m. We'll be singing on and off during the three hours to 11.30 - the faithful and loyal stragglers need to be seranaded too!! We are so grateful that Bill and Emma will be directing us. Taking part in this event is always a rewarding experience, so we hope many of you will be happy to come along..
Cherry will have a sheet on a table at the rear of the hall for you to indicate your willingness to take part. Thank you! The sheet will be available each week.
VOCALLY WILD'S 'SPRING' CONCERT - BRIGHTON TOWN HALL - Sunday, 16th October.
We are starting to plan this 'musical treat' for the community! For those of you who are new to Vocally Wild, we were awarded a small grant by Bayside Council to arrange a 'renewal' event post Covid, and our concert's focus is to 'celebrate the choir's return to singing after a couple of years of disruption and to showcase young, local, and exceptionally talented musicians'.
The 90-minute programme will commence at 3.00 p.m., followed by afternoon tea. As the full running costs will not be covered by the grant, there will be an entry fee of $15.00 (Adult) and $8.00 (12-16 yrs), Children free. The event should conclude before 6.00 p.m. As the date draws closer we will arrange for most ticket sales via Try Booking but other arrangements will be made for ticketing if necessary.
Further details will emerge in due course.
Cherry will have a sheet on a table at the rear of the hall for you to indicate your willingness to take part. Thank you! The sheet will be available each week.
ADMINISTRATION
- Fees Refund Policy: With effect from today's date, the Committee regrets to point out that once fees have been paid for the Semester, there will be no refunds given. We remind members of Vocally Wild's many running costs which are constant and need to be paid in advance and it is not financially viable, these days, for us to return funds.
- Website: Please note that the Committee has purchased a SSL Certificate for the Harmony Site (Vocally Wild Website) which makes it a safe and secure https place. You will see the 'lock' symbol at the top of the page. By the way, if you are having trouble accessing anything on the website, please contact me on 0437 697 009 and I will try to assist you.

Rising : 2022 Festival Singing in the Night Chorus – 26 May to 18 June at
The Wilds, Sidney Myer Music Bowl beside the Rinky Dink (ice rink)
by Cherry Tunnock
In March I joined a group of 120 singers from all over Melbourne to rehearse every Saturday at the Australian Institute of Music in King Street.
What a fun challenge to learn ten 80’s & 90’s songs completely by heart with many tricky harmonies and riffs for all three parts – Rolling in the Deep, Time After Time, Don’t Stop Me Now, Dancing Queen, Dancing on My Own, Sweet Dreams, Say My Name, I Wanna Dance with Somebody, Rosanna, In Your Eyes – under the enthusiastic instruction of talented music directors, Alex and Elisha.
Our first nervously exciting performance was at St Paul’s Cathedral and it was live streamed to Fed Square. We wore beautiful wool felt costumes designed by RMIT Fashion Design students. Next was a private thank you performance at the Bowl for staff and families of Royal Melbourne Hospital. Then followed 12 more performances at the Music Bowl where, in groups of 25 on each side of the ice rink per night, we belted out and danced our way through each set. This was no standing still choir and I was thrilled to finally be able to move and sing to my heart’s content.
Afterwards a few of us would head to the Up-High Bar for hot Negroni’s, from where this photo was taken, and we’d be mobbed by people overwhelmed with emotion at the joy we had brought to them. Young men were even asking for selfies with us – hilarious! So many laughs, so many steps on my FitBit (between 18,000 – 23,000 per night). This was truly the most enormous and thrilling experience that I’ll never forget.
