Welcome back!
Term 2 is now under way and we look forward to much singing and enjoyment. We warmly welcome two new members, and also we’re pleased that two interested ‘songbirds’ came along to try us out last Tuesday, so we do hope we passed the test!!
Thank you to those of you who attended the Beaumaris RSL ANZAC Parade and Service – it is always an atmospheric and memorable experience and it was so pleasing to see such a huge crowd in attendance, with many young people. Our male voices were a bit low in number this year, but Bill magically arranged instant ‘ring ins’ - three St. Leonard’s College staff members - to join us, which was wonderful and they certainly boosted the lower voice sounds.
Many of you will have the pleasure of travelling during June/July this year, so you will be pleased to hear that we have postponed our Annual Concert at Brighton Town Hall from 26th June to the afternoon of Sunday, 16th October. Full details will follow.
We now have a few more Diary Dates for you. Fingers are crossed that we can soon add our exciting preparation and performance dates regarding the Bayside Carols in the Park, if all our Gods are lined up!

TUESDAY, 3RD MAY - REHEARSAL MUSIC
- Re-visit "Siyahamba"
- Tighten "House of the Rising Sun"
- Start "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy"
- Start "You're the Voice"
‘You’re The Voice’ - Bill kindly sent us the structural chart and an mp3 recording for you to sing along with. Note: the first column shows the bars in the sheet music and the second column depicts the time code for the corresponding place in the recording. If you haven’t had an opportunity to print the sheet music, Maggie will be bringing supplies on Tuesday.
‘Siyahamba’ - the repeats scheme is repeated below:
Sing anacrusis (the 2 quavers at the very start) followed by bars 1, 2 and 3 (bar 3 is the 1st time ending "1." above the bracket]).
Repeat back and sing bars 1, 2 and 4 (bar 4 is the 2nd time ending ["2." above the bracket]).
Sing from bars 4 to 7 then repeat back to bar 4 (2nd time ending) and sing bars 4 to 9 (bars 8 and 9 are the final 2 bars of the piece).
(Note: The "oo-oo" in the soprano part in bar 9 [the last bar] shouldn't be there.)
OUR PIANO
Do you realise that our Piano is very much a very respectable elderly lady? She was built in Sydney by a firm called ‘Beale’ around 1910. As you know, Russel provided us with this wonderful instrument and we intend to treat her with the care she deserves!
I found out about her history from a very interesting man, Rhys Boak, who is our piano tuner; Rhys has done many things in his lifetime so if you would like to read his story, a Q & A will be forwarded sepately via email which you might find interesting.
OUR PIANO ACCOMPANIST
We are extremely grateful to Sarah for filling in as our accompanist for the past couple of months. Sarah is unable to continue in the role, so we are now going through the advertising process to employ a permanent person. If you know of anyone who might be interested, see the advertisement which will be forwarded separately via email, and please forward it on. Thank you.
THE WILDS – WINTER ARTS FESTIVAL
Let your imagination flourish under the cover of Dark, Light, Music, Food, Love and Art!!
Cherry has been rehearsing madly and will be part of the ‘Wilds Chorus’ which will be singing during the ‘Rising’ Program taking place between 1st and 19th June this year.
‘Rising’ is an initiative of the Victorian Government, through Creative Victoria and Visit Victoria and is described as: our Night Garden of stimulation – a fluoro fantasy of art, sound, taste and ice. The Sidney Myer Music Bowl will be transformed into a ‘Rinky Dink’ ice wonderland with performances and DJs getting bodies moving around the ice, whilst the Night Chorus belts out reconstructed ‘80s and ‘90’s hits.
Cherry will be singing almost every night at the early session, between 5.00 and 7.20 p.m. The second session runs later into the evening. This promises to be an exciting venture, so we wish Cherry and the organisers well. Hopefully some of you may be able to attend and take part! BLACK ROCK HOUSE
Congratulations to Black Rock House. Bayside City Council has announced that they are the winners of the ‘BCC Event of the Year’ for their Black Rock House Christmas Carols community event last December! Friends of Black Rock House have thanked Vocally Wild for participating and they hope we will be able to sing carols again this Christmas time.

ISN’T ‘MUSIC’ A WONDERFUL LANGUAGE?
When Lidia was organising our two trips to Italy some years ago, we were learning a little Italian, but also she wanted us to understand a little music terminology too. Anyway, I found the Music Terminology sheet which gives a clear definition for some of the more common terms - this will be forwarded separately via email. You may find it very useful! Thank you Lidia!
Looking forward to seeing you next week, and enjoy the weekend ahead.

Pat Lowry
