Hello!
Many of you were disappointed that we couldn’t resume Choir this week, but things are now looking positive for Term 2 and we are very happy to announce that we will be taking our usual part in the Beaumaris RSL ANZAC Parade and Service – see more detail below.
V.W. MUSIC DIRECTOR
Firstly, we have commenced our ‘recruitment’ campaign for our new M.D. - you may have seen the advertisement in various places. The deadline for applications is Friday, 12th March, so hopefully we will have our new Director early in Term 2.
ANZAC PARADE AND SERVICE – SUNDAY, 18TH APRIL
As mentioned, we are thrilled that the Beaumaris ANZAC event will go ahead and we have the privilege, once again, in being asked to take part in this very special and significant community event.
We are particularly pleased that our choir leader for the parade and service, and for the two rehearsals, will be Bill Miles. Bill is a candidate for the M.D. role and he has kindly agreed to help us out. This is an ideal opportunity for him to find out a little about us at Vocally Wild, and of course a perfect ‘audition’ opportunity for us all.
Bill will rehearse with us at 7.30 p.m. on:
- Tuesday, 23rd March, and
- Wednesday, 31st March (Tuesday 30th not suitable)
The venue will be confirmed shortly. The songs/hymns for the service are:
- O God Our Help in Ages Past
- Eternal Father Strong to Save (Naval Hymn)
- Song of Australia
- I Am Australian
- My Country
- New Zealand National Anthem
- Australian National Anthem
so now is a good time to start preparing your folders. If you haven’t all of the sheet music and words in your stockpile, don’t worry, Maggie will have spares available at our first rehearsal. Confirmation of the words to ‘Song of Australia’, which were adjusted prior to the unfortunately cancelled event in 2020, will follow soon.
We will sing most of the songs with the St. Leonard’s School Band, led by Mark Ford. Patrice will also be accompanying us, so it will be like old times again!
The confirmed programme will be forwarded in due course, but we are likely to meet, as usual, at the Beaumaris Community Centre at approximately 1.45 p.m. for rehearsal with the Band.
We will ask you to please wear the usual black (long sleeves and skirt/trousers) and if you have a ‘poppy’ it would be very special if you could wear it. There are many knitted poppy patterns around, if you want to make one. If you don’t have a pattern, let me know, I have a good, easy one. (If you really can’t knit and would like one, let me know and I’ll knit it for you, they don’t take long – community service!!!)
The Committee and all concerned hope you will come along to the rehearsals and take part in this community event – it is always a meaningful thing to do. If you’re unable to attend on the 18th April, but still would like to have a ‘sing’, do come along to the rehearsals anyway.
A BIT OF OPTIMISM
Reading that we are about to start up again should certainly help with those Covid ‘doldrums’ but if that’s not enough, our wonderful ‘vintage’ Leunig hits the right note here:
Also, along this theme, enjoy the link
provided by Jeannie Marsh, confirming the joy and pleasure for us all in music. Jeanie is a busy and very talented musician and choir leader.
Please watch out for more information coming to your 'gadget' soon!
Kindest regards,
Pat Lowry
