This is our final newsletter for 2020 and I'm sure most of us will not be saddened by the passing of 2020, 2021 looks hopeful, and by all accounts it seems everyone is keen to resume singing as early as safely possible. Therefore, the Committee is currently checking out suitable premises or locations, bearing in mind the health and safety regulations concerning spacing, airflow, ventilaton, etc., and we are happy to announce it is our intention for Vocally Wild Choir to commence Term 1, 2021 on Tuesday, 2nd February, 2021, 7.30 p.m. This will be at suitable premises, either inside or outside (whilst weather still good) as long as the Covid health regulations at the time allow it. The venue will be announced as soon as possible.
An advertisement putting out feelers for our new Choir Director has been created and will be placed in appropriate publications this month, so we look forward to meeting some keen applicants in the new year. You will, of course, be kept informed of progress in this regard. All going well, there could be a 'short list' by the start of February, so prior to appointing our new leader, we will most likely start Term 1 with some happy 'sing-alongs' to get us back "in the mood". In fact, see below what we plan to do with our own, very enthusiastic, John Smith's terrific musical suggestion!!!
Even though most of the year has been all quiet on the Choir front, the last few weeks have had a bit of a buzz about them and we can report on a few of these activities
"ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU' ZOOM CAROLS"
By all accounts, everyone who attended agreed that the Zoom was a great success. Approximately 52 gadjets tuned in, resulting in an attendance of around 60 to 65 or more. It was an excellent, cheerful, fun-filled programme and the Committee is so appreciative of Dianne’s excellent planning and co-ordination, enthusiasm, dedication and generous assistance to the guest singers (and from the positive feed back, all who attended feel the same way too). The Vocally Wild members who sang and presented were amazing; Dianne, Fran, Lesley, Jenny, Teresa, and of course, our wonderful Robert, glorious Katherine Gale and Diana, who said her farewells to us. You are all warmly congratulated on your talent, confidence and evident joy at being involved. Wasn't Fran a wonderful M.C? (No point in hiding away Fran, all eyes will be on you for future performances!!!???) Did you spot Pattie and Shirley, our two wonderful ex-Vocally Wilders? So good to see you there.
To top it all, Robert let it be known that he was already planning the 2021 Carols in the Park!!! This news was received with great enthusiasm.
SOCIAL GET-TOGETHER, BEAUMARIS SEA SCOUTS HALL
Many thanks to Sylvia and Miranda (and their husbands!!) for organising the venue for this perfect end of year get-together and making it look so festive. It was a very successful event with an excellent attendance of around 55. Last Sunday afternoon had been hot, but by the time we gathered with our chairs, picnic tables, bottles, glasses, snacks and Christmas cheer, the golden late sun was warm, the birds were singing and everyone had a very pleasant two and a half hours basking in all this glory! It was so good to see so many choir faces and enjoy the friendship and congenial atmosphere.
BLACK ROCK SPORTS CLUB CAROLS
Lidia was asked, at short notice, if Vocally Wild could provide a small choir to sing Carols at the Black Rock Sports Club on Friday, 18th December, at their Christmas Party. In her typical enthusiastic style, Lidia rounded up a group of about 11 or more singers, including Jenny Ellison, who will be doing a couple of solos with her guitar. This event takes place tomorrow night. The programme looks interesting, includijg a professional pianist, trumpeters, soloists, and us!! This should be a fun time for those taking part and, as Black Rock Sports Club has been very accommodating to us in the past, we are very happy to be joining in and supporting them.
JOHN SMITH - “A PLACE IN THE CHOIR”
Our loyal and enthusiastic John contacted Julie recently with a hope that the Choir might learn to sing a song by Celtic Thunder, “A Place in the Choir” which depicts animals’ places in the choir. The Committee was very enthusiastic and have decided to adopt this song as our 'Vocally Wild Anthem', which we will learn and sing at rehearsal meetings, concerts, etc. or whenever/wherever the occasion demands it! The lyrics are printed below. Hopefully we will be able to source the choral sheet music. It is a delightful, simple, catchy song and we feel it will be perfect for us. Thank you John, it was a brilliant move on your part!
So, how about listening to it and starting to sing along, ready for early February?!
A PLACE IN THE CHOIR (Celtic Thunder)
All God's creatures got a place in the choir
Some sing low and some sing higher,
Some sing out loud on a telephone wire,
Some just clap their hands, or paws, or anything they've got now
All God's creatures got a place in the choir
Some sing low and some sing higher,
Some sing out loud on a telephone wire,
Some just clap their hands, or paws, or anything they've got now
Listen to the top where the little bird sings
On the melodies and the high notes ringing,
And the hoot owl cries over everything
And the blackbird disagrees
Singing in the night time, singing in the day,
When little duck quacks, and he's on his way
And the otter hasn't got much to say
And the porcupine talks to himself
All God's creatures got a place in the choir
Some sing low and some sing…
Not sure if you're going away; but if nothing is planned, how about we all trail along after Leunig's little friends? Seems to me the perfect destination!!
Kindest regards,
Pat and all the Committee
