VOCALLY WILD CONCERT
Friday, 14th June is approaching rapidly, so let's invite as many friends and family as we can to come along to enjoy the event; pass on some flyers to your neighbours, your local shop keepers, community centres; place one on the noticeboard at a supermarkets near you or shout from the rooftops that an incredible choir will be performing an amazing concert on:

TEA LADY/GENT DUTIES !
Carolyn, who brings the tea/coffee supplies each week, will be on holiday from early June for about 6 weeks and again in August, so if anyone wishes to volunteer to take over for these periods, please contact Carolyn, back row Sopranos, or anyone on the Committee. It's a simple, but very important task!
SEA SHANTIES
Sean Kavanagh, Performing Arts Co-ordinator, Kingston, was delighted with the turnout at the recent Saturday 'sign on' workshop and thrilled with the enthusiasm of all concerned and the resulting sound. He is excited at the prospect of the final results in September.
Sean is in the process of working out a rehearsal schedule and all who are registered will be advised of the outcome. I am sure that if you are keen to take part in this exciting choral adventure, and you're not already enrolled, you would be very welcome. CADENCE 'TUNE OF THE MOON'
Cadence will present their harmonious a capella World music, chants, sing along and more on Sunday, 2nd June at St. Agnes Church, 35 Arkaringa Crescent, Black Rock, from 5.00 to 6.30 p.m., followed by light refreshments. - Jazz Assembly - Thursday, 30th May. Melbourne International Jazz Festival is holding a Jazz Vocal engagement singing 'flash mob' for massed voices, conducted by vocalist Gian Slater, at Federation Square Atrium. Jazz Assembly are to premier a new piece of music commissioned for a chorus of voices. All choirs and individual singers of all ages and levels are welcome. This is a community event. - Melbourne International Singer's Festival - Thursday, 6th June, Rock Choir. Free 'Flash Mob' Choir Event - Deakin Edge Theatre, Federation Square, 6.00 to 7.00 p.m. Sing your heart out for just an hour, after work or shopping, with a live band led by two of Australia's music industry legends: Grace Knight (Eurogliders) and Jonathon Welch (Choir of Hard Knocks). Tickets are available for The Musical: Come from Away, playing at the Comedy Theatre. $75pp Dress Circle 1pm Wed 9th October. You may have read the book, ‘The Day the World came to Town’; this musical is also based on the true events that occurred due to 9/11, when International flights had to be diverted to an old US WW2 airfield at Gander, Newfoundland, Canada, because of The Twin Towers collapse and the immediate closure of JFK airport. COME FROM AWAY tells the remarkable true story of how the residents of small town Gander, rallied together to welcome some 6,132 stranded passengers from all round the world. This musical is the Winner of 2019 Olivier Award for best new Musical.

FISH AND SHIPS FESTIVAL
On Saturday, 18th May, instead of having the famous 'fish and chips' at Whitby, North Yorkshire, I'll be attending the 'Fish and Ships' Festival there, with everything to do with fish and ships being celebrated. The replica of Cook's 'Endeavour', from Australia, will feature in this historic and scenic harbour town and the Marske Fishermen's Choir will be one of the many choirs and other acts to perform in various venues, including Whitby Abbey, on the 'Endeavour', on the harbour, Cook's Monument, etc. It will be a fun occasion in a fabulous setting; even the 'goths' come out in huge numbers in this quirky town, as those who are acquainted with Bram Stoker and 'Dracula' will understand! I'll be there to cheer on the singing fishermen, of course, and hope to get an interesting photo to post. It's sea shanty year this year, it seems!
