Hello All,
Following up on our very successful Concert, we received many positive comments including an email from our very special guest and loyal Vocally Wild follower, Patty Chaplin (ginger fairy/lover of all things ‘mermaid’) - printed below. Another special guest, Graeme Disney, also sent a very kind, complimentary message saying how much he had enjoyed the entertainment, and the supper! Once again, thank you to everyone involved, in particular the very hard working helpers!
We have so many talented people in our midst. I’ve just learnt that Jenny Ellison’s ‘Children’s’ songs have been picked up by ABC Kids and are being played on their digital radio station. They’ve been playing songs from Jenny’s first album in the last couple of months, together with songs from her Christmas album. Her songs are also being played on Kinderling Kids Radio and Little Rockers Radio stations, which she is delighted about. Well done Jenny. Jenny has also been busy in other song-writing areas too, which perhaps I can tell you about next month!
Further into the Newsletter, you may wish to read John Smith’s description of his ‘volunteering’ experiences, plus there’s also a note from Patrice from her rehab bed. Malcolm Peck goes off to Nepal next week to continue his great work in the community there - bon voyage Malcolm!

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM ROBERT DRYDEN RE. CHANGE OF FINAL REHEARSAL DATE FOR BAYSIDE CAROLS
Due to the unavailability of a number of soloists for the final rehearsal on Sunday night (9th December), we have decided to change the final rehearsal to the following night Monday, 10th December. The venue will still be Brighton Town Hall. The rehearsal will start at 7.30 p.m (7.00 p.m arrival). Brighton Rotary will kindly put on a sausage sizzle, from 5.30 p.m., for those people coming straight from work. All are welcome to attend and be fed! My apologies for the change. I hope you are all available to attend this Monday rehearsal.
PATTY CHAPLIN - OUR CONCERT
Please pass on my congrats to all my V.W. chorister pals who acquitted themselves so wonderfully to make it all happen so well - such a relaxed and joyous musical evening - I loved every moment of it - such a happy night with smiles all around - great audience participation.
It was super to see “The Boys” enjoying themselves and sounding “spot on‘’ as they had much to say about “dames“ - very tunefully - good on you lads for sharing your often hidden talents with us all - no more trying to "hide your lights under a bushel” - great job well done.
I loved the choice of songs, so varied and so lovely to listen to and to join in, where it was appropriate to do so. Please congratulate the Sopranos and Altos as well for their melodious harmonies which added light and colour throughout the performances.
Please thank your very talented new Music Director/Conductor, Diana Clark de-Vries, for a fab concert - may she continue to have fun and to share her expertise in making more magical, musical experiences with “VOCALLY WILD”. She is really and truly to be congratulated for following in the footsteps of the “illustrious, renowned, amazing, distinguished, fabulous, fantasmagorical Mr. Roberto Dryden”!

KINGSTON ARTS CENTRE INITIATIVE
Diana is keen to explore this Kingston Arts Centre participatory arts initiative for 2019. Kingston Arts are hoping to capitalise on the wealth of choral groups in Kingston and surrounds and provide an opportunity for keen choristers to diversify their practice and collaborate with members of other choirs on a large, innovative project. Sean Kavanagh, who is employed by K.A.C., has been working with singer-songwriter Fred Smith, and Andrew Price from ‘Men in Suits’, to develop an idea that they hope to see culminate in a major performance at Kingston City Hall in September, 2019. There will also be an event in early March, at which participants will be able to develop their skills in a voice workshop and to indicate/confirm their interest in the being part of the larger project.
Sean is keen to come to Choir to explain more about the initiative and Diana is planning for this to happen within the next two weeks. Sean explains, of course, that the success of the project depends on the enthusiastic involvement of members of the choral community. I don’t think there will be a problem about our enthusiasm!!
2019 MEMBERSHIP FEES
The Committee is happy to announce that, after a good year of consolidation and independence, membership fees will not be increased in 2019. Fees, therefore, will remain at the current level, $80 per term. (The fees remain at $80 whether you pay for the entire year, semester, or individually by term). An invoice will be forwarded later in the year.
PHOTOCOPYING
Maggie is very happy to announce that your assistance in returning unwanted sheet music, has resulted in the saving of 1,225 copies of sheet music being printed. What an achievement. Maggie thanks you all and especially her small band of sorters and collaters, who have now produced enough of the 'Carols slab' for those who don't have the complete set. Naturally, please return any spare sheets. Thank you.

CAROLS IN THE COMMUNITY
Much work is being done to attempt to organise some local Bayside venues for smaller groups of singers to sing carols at our community hubs. Edwina is following up on some leads at the moment. In the meantime, Russel has sent an email around to find out if and when you are available to sing, so please reply at your earliest and with this knowledge under our belt, we will be organised and ready to sing these joyous Christmas carols to all those lucky shoppers!
VOCALLY WILD AND MOSAIC END OF YEAR CELEBRATION
You will have noticed in the ‘Diary Dates’ mention of our combined end of year celebration with Mosaic. If you haven’t received your flyer, please advise me, or any member of the Social Committee. Details are: Saturday, 15th December, 7.30 to 11.30 p.m. Black Rock Yacht Club, Half Moon Bay, Black Rock. Music and Dancing with “Four Peace Band”. Tickets are an incredibly low $5.00 each. VOLUNTERRING (Can Improve the Health of our Community) By John Smith
My story goes back about fourteen years when my G.P., Dr. Michael Stagg, referred me to an Urologist for a routine PA test. The test indicated an elevated PSA, as a result I underwent a major prostatectomy at Cabrini Malvern. The surgery was a success, leaving me cancer free for the past fourteen years.
Eight years ago I decided to give a bit back in the form of volunteering and joined Brighton Cabrini. My role involves patient visitation in a very busy medical ward. Volunteering is indeed an honour and a privilege meeting so many interesting patients from all walks of life and hearing their life stories.
While visiting the wards there is the opportunity to offer the patients music to listen to. It has been introduced by means of an IPod, understanding the comfort and joy music brings while on the journey to recovery and wellbeing.
Special thanks to my choir ‘Vocally Wild’ who encouraged me and its members to share their experiences and love of music and singing.
