Hello everyone ......
Let's have a 'Leunig news day' and now that things are iimprovin all our news is positive and kind - from the birds,, ducks, and curly people -
with thoughts of beauty, music,
flowers and mountains!
To get in the spirit, thank you to so many of you for coming along to our Zoom Annual General Meeting earlier this month; it was wonderful to see so many faces and the meeting went very well. If you wish to see copies of financials or minutes, please let me know.
A warm welcome goes to our two new Committee Members - Sylvia Ring and Kerry Holmquest, who will be very valued members of the group that's for sure. A huge thank you goes to Jenny and Dianne, who retired from the Committee this year - they are both terrific Vocally Wild members who contributed enormously to Vocally Wild..
As you can imagine, there's not a lot to pass on at the moment, but we hope to organise some outside singing activities, once we are clearer as to the numbers allowed. (Watch this space). You will be aware by now that, sadly, the Bayside Carols in the Park has been cancelled for 2020, but we do hope to be able to get together to sing some form of Carols prior to Christmas, somewhere, somehow!!!
In the meantime, at our recent Committee meeting, after considering feedback from some of you, we thought we would try a Zoom gatheriing:
TEA, WINE, SONG AND CHAT - SUNDAY, 11TH OCTOBER - 3.00 P.M.
The idea is that interested members would join together for an 'Open Mic' style zoom get-together, where members who wish to perform individually (or if as a group, it would need to be using just one computer, tablet or phone). In between the performances, we can have our cup of tea or glass of wine and chat! Dianne and Russel are happy to be the organisers and help with technical queries, and Dianne would be the host. To get this on its way, we invite you to:
- Consider if you would like to perform, as a single act - (it is technically too difficult to have more than one singer/performer at a time from separate equipment), or as a group from one piece of equipment,.
- Contact Dianne and Dianne and Russel will assist in any technical issues or if you require backing tracks, etc.
- You will all be forwarded the Zoom link once it is organised.
Now, who's going to sing "Little Darlin', it's been a Long and Lonely Winter"??
DIANA
Some of our members zoomed into Diana's GSA online Choir 'Tonic' on four Wednesday evenings recently. Thank you to Diana who put in a great deal of thought and effort into this. I am sure everyone who attended enjoyed and benefitted from your 'tonic'.
Diana has kindly forwarded some of her video clips. She is happy to share these with you as lockdown restrictions begin; she feels the songs will reflect our spirits. Thank you!

GENEROSITY FROM VIVA MELBOURNE!
It has taken quite some time for Viva Melbourne participants to wind up the trip affairs, i.e. refunds from cancellations, etc., but from the group point of view, we are now finalising refunds from the V.M. bank account. A small amount remained, which was to be shared between the travellers and many kindly decided to donate their share to Vocally Wild. So, today, we are happy to announce that $410 has been transferred from the Viva Melbourne account into the Vocally Wild coffers. Thank you to all who donated after this long, untravelled road!!!!
SONGS
As we 'dare to dream' about our future singing together as a large group, (of course this could be a long way off yet), we are starting to consider the 'joyful' songs we might like to open with, after such a long time apart.
Maggie has delved into her enormous music storage and put together 40 great songs which she feels we really enjoyed and sang well; ones we are able to reproduce.. I have, on file, Toni's amazing page which she produced for Robert's farewell book, covering every song Toni learnt during her time with Robert as M.D. - 102 of them!! It's great, nostalgic reading!
If there are any songs covered during your time in Vocally Wild which you would like to nominate as good 'starting back, happy, sing along songs', please let any Committee member know so we can put together a 'favourites' list for when our Tuesday evenings return and we can once again sing with gusto!
GENERAL CHIT CHAT
- Elana from SandyBeach Community Centre forwarded some information recently. They have a number of different online courses available. If you're interested in finding out what is happening, perhaps you could look up their website - https://sandybeach.org.au
- From Church Bulletins. Have you seen this? "Thank God for the Church Ladies with Typewriters"? The following are just a few sentences which actually appeared, or were announced during Church services. I can forward the whole list if you like - it's very funny!
- Next Thursday there will be try-outs for the choir. they need all the help they can get.
- At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be "What is Hell?" Come early and listen to our choir practice.
- The ladies of the Church have cast off clothing of every kind. They may be seen in the basement on Friday afternoon.
- The eighth graders will be presenting Shakespeare's Hamlet in the Church basemenet on Friday at 7.00 p.m. The congregation is invited to attend this tragedy.
- The Associate Minister unveiled the church's new campaign slogan last Sunday. "I Upped My Pledge - Up Yours".
- Don't let worry kill you off - let the Church help.
